Search Engine Optimisation – A Checklist For Success!

Don’t know where to start? Very good question. There are so many offers/programs/courses offered apparently, to beginners. Most of them are very good but you may not be ready for them yet.

So this is our ideal vision of a marketing agency in the 21st century: proactive, creative and abreast of modern technology. In other words: everything you could want to look for. However, to really understand how it works we have to look at each of these sectors in turn.

Use Internal Links. You want the search engines to be able to find their way around your site. Think how difficult it would be to walk around a city like Edinburgh if there were no sign posts or if you didn’t have a map. Links from your homepage to other pages on your site act as sign posts that search engines can use to rank your pages. You need to work out what are the main pages that you want to rank for and then link to these pages. Then use relevant keywords to link to these pages. For example, to rank a page for “Edinburgh builders” use the word “Edinburgh builiders” in the text that links to that page. Remember to use keyword diversity to make it look more natural. So don’t just use anchor text keywords, but other words like “contact us” or “click here”.

Showcase your expertise by including the best information first. What information do you have that can help people solve a problem. If you know something that is very valuable, don’t be greedy by hording it. Instead, share it with your readers and give them some examples of how they can use it. content marketing is really the best way to build a business, especially if done right.

This is the most frustrating thing I have learnt. Most web designers (especially the ones at the budget end of the market) cannot build a website that will generate good search engine rankings if their life depended on it. They have absolutely no clue about Seo (search engine optimisation) and will sell you designs that are search engine poison. The problem is most of them can talk a good fight and will baffle you with jargon that hides that they have no idea what they are doing.

For example, let’s take the normal basic service you might commonly see on offer. By this we mean a sales strategy and perhaps a DM campaign. It hardly breaks new ground. At the other end of the scale you get companies that can offer a complete end to end service. This incorporates literally everything from advertising, to branding, copywriting, web design, right the way through to search engine optimisation and public relations campaigns. If done correctly it leaves literally no stone unturned.

You may think that the post you have made about your new novel is the best thing that you can do to get your name out there and get the revenue pouring in. But you stand a much better chance of breaking through if you are contributing to active discussions. You are more inclined to use your creativity and not your salesmanship in this type of forum. And it is this attitude that will more quickly get you noticed. From there, people will want to know more, and sales are right around the corner.
